Eight President's have died in office; arguably the most traumatic of those death's (at least the non-assassination related ones) was the death of Franklin Roosevelt. Roosevelt died on April 12 after suffering a massive cerebral hemorrhage - his final words were, "I have a terrific pain in the back of my head." At the time, Roosevelt was at his vacation home in Warm Springs, Georgia, and his death is the subject of this morning's question. Well, it isn't Michael Schlossberg - that's me.
It isn't Anna Roosevelt Boettiger - that was FDR's daughter, but she was not there when Roosevelt died.
The logical answer is Eleanor Roosevelt, FDR's wife, but that isn't the answer either. The correct answer is actually Lucy Mercer Rutherford, FDR's mistress, and as you can imagine, Eleanor Roosevelt was less than pleased to find out that it was Lucy who was with FDR as he died.
