The Police were, arguably, one of the greatest bands of the late 70s and early 80s. Originally a punk band, the group quickly expanded into other sounds, including New Wave and Rock. The group broke up due to creative and personality differences in the mid-80s at the height of their popularity and left behind a massive void in the music scene (one that was filled quickly, of course).
